New Rules for teen drivers effective December 24th

Category: Blog

Governor Tom Corbett this week signed a bill which mandates the following for junior drivers (age 16 1/2 to 18):

* Limit on the number of passengers under the age of 18: no more than one (except for immediate family members) for the first 6 months; no more than three after the first 6 moths.

* Increase in behind-the-wheel training: 65 hours (up from 50), 10 of which must be at night and five of which must be during inclement weather.

The new law will also make the failure of drivers and underage passengers to wear a seatbel;t a primary offense, which carries steeper penalties.
